Product Description Allison leaned over to pat her dog s head. Despite her disabilities . . . Ribbon is still the best Border Collie in Colorado, aren t you girl? No, she isn t, Katie said, shaking her head. Grinning, Katie paused dramatically. She s the best Border Collie in the whole world. Ribbon, a beautiful black and white Border Collie, loves to herd sheep, cattle, goats, and even the family cat. Her owner, Allison, feels Ribbon has special abilities that could make her the #1 champion herding dog in all of North America some day. That dream, however, abruptly ends when the dog is hit by a car and injured while trying to protect a herd of "weed-whacking" goats in the Colorado high country. When things seem bleakest, Allison's mother suggests to her devastated daughter that Ribbon has what it takes to become a Therapy Dog -- visiting patients in hospitals, rehab centers, and nursing homes to cheer them up and give them hope for the future. But Allison is unsure. Allison s mother then shares her favorite Erma Bombeck clipping with her daughter: When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left and could say, I used everything you gave me. Does this bit of wisdom convince Allison? Will Ribbon be able to change from herder to healer?

A heartwarming inspirational story about adapting to change and discovering new talents November 17, 2008 Midwest Book Review (Oregon, WI USA) Ribbon the Border Collie: From Herder to Healer is a chapter book for young adults about a strong-willed, black-and-white Border Collie who loves to herd sheep, cattle, goats, and even the family cat. But when Ribbon is injured by a car, she is no longer able to herd animals. Her owner Allison is devastated, but Allison's mother suggests that perhaps Ribbon can become a Therapy Dog, who brings good cheer to patients in hospitals, rehab centers, and nursing homes. Can Ribbon learn new tricks, and even a new career? A heartwarming inspirational story about adapting to change and discovering new talents, highly recommended for young dog lovers.
Heartwarming and Memorable June 19, 2008 Amy Perina (Fairfax, VA USA) Lyn Bezek's book is wonderful. Set against the backdrop of beautiful Colorado, a young girl and her dog overcome challenges and find their true calling... It is a story of love and joy. Ribbon will warm your heart! I am a teacher, and I plan to use it in my classroom. I can't wait for Lyn Bezek and Su Hand to create another book. This one is just great!

Lyn as created another outstanding children's book providing moral lessons along with the results of having courage to tackle life's problems and overcoming them. Lyn has a wonderful knowledge of Colorado as well as the nursing profession and animals. Su's illustrations are magical. I am proud to share this book with my grandchildren. Way to go Lyn!!! P.S. Keep a box of kleenex handy.
